No, they are not another chill-wavers, despite what the band's name might suggest.
This is the latest work of Riko Prayitno, the former guitarist of Mocca - one of Bandung's best bands. After Mocca decided to go on hiatus in June 2011, Riko sought for a new outlet for his songwriting creativity. It shouldn't be hard since Bandung is like the mecca of music talents. And it took no further than Riko's own cafe - Beat N Bite, for him to meet Cil a regular jammer on Beat N Bite's open mic sessions. One thing leads to another, Riko and Cil found a common ground to start making music together and then asked Fikri of Vincent Vega to be the other guitarist. Starting out as an acoustic trio, they felt the need of additional players as they began to expand their sound. So nothing more than 4 other players were added to enhance The Triangle with drums, keyboard, trumpet and trombone.
The result is here, a single called How Could You. A song with a catchy opening that takes you down the memory lane of 90s sound in the likes of Purresence, Geneva and maybe, Haven. The melancholy feeling grasps stronger as you pay attention to the lyrics, delivered properly by Cil. Yes this is one of those ballads that will soon play tricks on your mind. Yet it doesn't sound cheesy. As they put it so well towards the song's ending, the sound have become some kind of epic. Reminded me to the grand endings of Long-View.
The Triangle reflects a darker side of Riko's songwriting. Some of their songs were indeed written back in the days but wouldn't fit the image of Riko's previous band, Mocca. Judging by this single, one thing is obvious, The Triangle is capable of creating a sing-a-long tune. Go have a listen, and find your self humming to the song. It is that good.
The Triangle is currently working on their debut album, in the mean time, check out their debut single as free download here
