The year 2011 had seen the reviving sounds of the nineties as well demonstrated by the likes of Big Troubles, Shine 2009, and Devon Williams. It was a good year for reminiscing a great decade. But we never get enough of them, do we? If so, then these girls hailing from Bandung couldn't pick any better time to publish their demo than the very early of 2012.
The track is called If Loving You Is Heartbreaking and the name is Munchausen Trilemma (derived from a philosophical term for the impossibility to prove any certain truth). Sophisticated. You could directly sense the DNA of female fronted bands such as Madder Rose, The Sundays, early The Like, and even Juliana Hatfield, printed all over the song, even though it was never intended to be so 90s as the band disclaimed. Highlighting the catchy love-proclaiming-lines, drenched in guitar driven (played by all lefties) & pop oriented melodies, it is beautiful and lyrically uplifting. The song became an instant favorite that it has reached almost 1000 plays within a week on Soundcloud, gaining raves on twitter. Obviously, Diantra Irawan (vocals, guitars) that initiated Munchausen Trilemma, has had Riska Maharlika and Vinda Monalisa on her side to sound remotely different to her other band, Hollywood Nobody. And it does sound different. It's been a while since we heard of Bandung's new sound that could recall the memory of its predecessors; Bubble Gum, Cherry Bombshell, The Lotion and other Bandung's guitar bands of the early 90s. This could be a promising beginning of Munchausen Trilemma, whatever direction they might take next, the fans are looking forward to listen to their other songs. Hopefully not in a distant future.
